Even though Chinese medicine is over 3000 years old, it is a changing and developing medicine incorporating new knowledge and developing new treatments and as such it has become more embraced by the Western world. There is much evidence based research on acupuncture and Chinese herbs now (the Nobel prize was recently awarded for research into a major malaria killing herb that has been used in Chinese medicine for thousands of years).
Australia is the first country in the world to have fully registered practitioners and our government has been setting up research funding in conjunction with Beijing Universality and NICM at Western Sydney University in 2017 to learn how to integrate Chinese medicine into our health care system.
In Australia Chinese medicine students study many Western health subjects like anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, biochemistry and botany, alongside their Chinese subjects. It is important to understand health from a Western perspective and to be very aware of possible drug interactions with herbs. It takes 5 years to train in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine with over 1500 clinical hours of clinical experience before qualifying. Compare this to a few days training for “Dry Needling”.
If you are not sure about your health problems, please send and email or call Bayside Chinese Medicine. Many conditions and symptoms have been treated successfully with Chinese medicine over a very long period of time.
