In Chinese medicine cupping is used to remove blockages of vital energy and correct imbalances, such as those caused by wind, cold or damp penetrating the body. This ancient form of healing is done with a vacuum caused by introducing heat into specialized glass cups that draw onto particular skin areas. It can be used to remove excess or to gently release and unblock stagnation. Some of the symptoms that respond well to this technique are abdominal bloating, bronchitis, phlegm that is difficult to cough up, painful neck, shoulders and back and many more conditions.
The cups are placed on particular acupuncture points, with various pressures and time depending on the condition and the patient. The results can be immediate but marks can take a few days to clear.
